About Mount Vernon Park
The historic district of Mount Vernon Park can be found at Somerville Massachusetts. It features 4 Greek style Revival houses which were constructed as far back as 1850, as well as Second Empire and Federal period homes. Most retain their original design although some have been modernized with contemporary siding.
A number of changes have been made to the area over the centuries. The street was originally platted out around 1845 so it could be situated near a regional railroad line that was constructed along Charleston Neck ten years earlier. This allowed the region to become a key transport corridor, and though Mount Vernon Park used to be rural, in the last 150 years it has become a largely suburban area which in 1989 was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
