Replacing the battery in your keyless entry remote is easy, but you'll want to do it before it's too late. If the battery dies, you won't be able to unlock or lock your car with that key fob-and if no one has a spare, you may have to take your vehicle to a dealership for repairs. Replacing the GMC Car Key battery takes just a few minutes once you've purchased some new cells and tools. It's also important that you follow these steps in order (don't remove something until after it's been mentioned) or risk damaging your fob!

GMC cars made in or after 2007 have keys with a remote control device to lock and unlock the doors and trunk. The key fob uses a battery, which needs to be changed periodically. How often you need to replace the battery depends on how often you use your remote control and where you live (the colder it gets, the more power drains).

To replace your vehicle's remote-control battery:

  • First, locate the release button on your key fob. It will either be a small button on the back of the key fob or a slot in the bottom end of the key fob. If you find that your GMC-brand remote requires a screwdriver to open its back cover, use one that is not too long or sharp so as to avoid damaging any other parts inside. You should remove any protective cap over your remote's battery compartment (if there is one) and insert your flathead screwdriver into it at an angle to pry up its side tab from whatever it may be attached to a way of glue or tape.
  • If there is a slot on the bottom end of your key fob, slide a flat head screwdriver into it and press down until you feel it click. Twist in the direction that allows you to open the back of your key fob. Ensure that your GMC car key batteryis not connected to anything when you start up or turn off your vehicle's ignition.
  • If there is a button on the back of your key fob, use your fingernail or another flat tool to press down on it. This will open up the back, where you can find the battery.
  • Use tweezers or another flat tool to remove the old battery from your GMC car key fob. Make sure not to touch any metal parts with your hands, as this could cause an electrical shock and damage your new battery when you put it in place.
  • Take note: If you have difficulty removing this part, try using a small flat head screwdriver instead, which should allow more room for gripping onto surfaces than normal-sized ones sometimes due to their smaller size allowing access into tighter spaces without damaging anything else nearby, like fingers or toes!
  • Take out a new battery and hold its positive side (marked with "+") against one end of a small paper clip, which acts as a contact point for connecting power from one terminal to another. Do this by touching both ends of the paper clip together until red sparks appear around each end; this means both terminals are electrically connected together and ready for use in your GMC vehicle's remote-control unit!
  • If you've successfully replaced your car key's battery, make sure you close it up by snapping it shut or pressing the two halves securely together again. The door lock will spring back into place, and you'll be ready to drive off!

So, now that you know how to replace the battery in your GMC car key, it's time to get started. As always, if you have any questions about any of the steps in this process, please let us know!
