If you drive a newer model GMC, your vehicle will likely come with an intelligent feature that makes driving a very enjoyable experience. GMCs are fitted with cruise control, a feature that allows you to focus on steering while your car keeps you at a constant speed or a measured distance from the car in front of you.
The cruise control system is a clever feature that significantly reduces the need to press the gas and brake pedals frequently while driving. It is especially handy while driving long distances where you may want to maintain a specific driving speed for an extended period.
Here's how to set GMC cruise control in a few simple steps:
- Press the Cruise Control ON/OFF button on your steering wheel to activate the system. Once the system is activated, you will notice a white Adaptive Cruise Control Icon in your heads-up display or instrument cluster. Depending on your model and year of manufacture, you will see an arc with a triangle pointing through it or an icon that looks like a vehicle on top of a speedometer.
- The next step is to set your desired cruising speed. To do this, accelerate or decelerate to your desired cruising speed and press the 'SET' button. The white Adaptive Cruise Control Icon will turn green in your instrument cluster or your heads-up display.
- Now you can set the preferred distance between your GMC and the car in front of you using the gap setting buttons on your steering wheel. The setting has three modes for you to choose from. You can select near, medium or far, which translates to how close you want your GMC to get to the car in front. The gap setting icon (which looks like a star between two cars driving close together) will appear on your instrument cluster or your heads-up display. It is important to note that your driving speed will adjust automatically depending on your gap setting. For instance, you will go slower if you choose the near gap setting because you will have a shorter distance for braking and vice versa.
You can switch between different cruise control modes by pressing and holding the cancel button on your GMC steering wheel for a few seconds until the icon in your instrument cluster or heads-up display changes to notify you of the current cruise control mode. Finally, to turn off cruise control in your GMC, press the brake pedal, the cancel button, or the Cruise Control ON/OFF.
